How to Identify UFO's

   Take plenty of pictures:
   
   Your word is as good as a thousand words if you have physical evidence.

   Use Ockham's Razor:
   
   This is a principle that states the explanation of any phenomenon should make as few assumption as plausible. In other words, simplest solution is usually the best or first choice.

4. Step 4

   Search out an UFO group or organization that could give you more insight into your experience.

How to Identify a UFO Hoax

You've seen some of the pictures that supposedly show UFOs--they have grainy texture, blurry objects and no reference point for size. These characteristics make it easy to spot an obvious hoax. But some are not so obvious. For whatever reason--challenge, attention, notoriety--individuals can rig up some pretty convincing stuff. You need be to smart, careful and skeptical when seeking to identify a UFO hoax. Read on to learn more.

Identify A UFO Hoax

1. Step 1

   Examine photographic evidence carefully. Look for noticeable differences in contrast and focus between the objects and the background.

2. Step 2

   Scan the pictures into your computer and magnify them to expose strings, wires or other paraphernalia.

3. Step 3

   Consider the credibility of the witness or witnesses. Notice whether they tell their stories calmly and if there are any discrepancies between the stories of several witnesses.

4. Step 4

   Think about the elements of the story told by witnesses. Ask yourself if it sounds like any science fiction plots you know about, or if it does not match with any details of documented UFO sightings.

5. Step 5

   Beware of exaggerated claims and inconsistencies in photographs. The story should sound reasonable and be told over with no variations of important details, and the photographs should all be consistently lit and framed to give provide a constant reference point.

6. Step 6

   Don't put stock in excuses for lack of evidence, for instance, the claim that the object was stolen in an attempt to discredit the witness or taken by a mysterious "government agency."

7. Step 7

   Go to the site of the incident. Look for bits of string or wire, match ends or other signs that someone created the object that was observed.

8. Step 8

   Investigate the character of the person reporting the sighting. Find out if he is known to exaggerate, joke or pull pranks. You may even wish to interview the person's friends, neighbors or coworkers.

9. Step 9

   Call in an expert in photography, videography or ufology to confirm the evidence.

10. Step 10

    Research old hoaxes. Look for similarities between them and the one you are investigating. This may help to identify a fake.
